Auction sales: houses and advice by Yves Hernot
This year went by very quickly because of this terrible pandemic. It’s time to spoil yourself and have some fun. Soon Christmas and the holiday season will be there. For many this means buying gifts for our dear and loved ones. Fortunately there are auction houses in all Australian states, the most important ones in New South Wales and in the state of Victoria. Some have antiques and memorabilia starting at $20, others only sell items valued over $1,000 and up to over $1,000,000!
Here are the Auction Houses:
ABA associates, Vickers and hoad, Lawsons , Smith and Singer in Vic and NSW (former Sothebys),Bonhams, Deutsher and Hackett, Shapiro auction, Leonard Joel (Vic and NSW),Noble numismatic (coins, medals, militaria, banknotes, gold and silver).
We can find on sale: Quality objects, porcelain, antique and contemporary furniture, lamps, old and contemporary paintings, aboriginal art, jewelry, branded cars, books, coins, stamps but also occasionally major fashion brands ranging from Louis Vuitton and Dior bags as well as Hermès ties, silk squares, designer clothes who are of course always second-hand.
But before going there, find out about the regulations, the buyers premium/sales commission and how to buy online through internet. For those who cannot attend the auction, you can also leave an Absentee form, this service is free.
You also have the option of conducting the sale through your phone; you will have to give the numbers of the lots that interest you at the auction so that you can be reached by phone.
It is preferable to view the lots you’re interested in, while following the Covid regulations. Most auctions offer a printed catalog online or on paper with photos. It is best to make an appointment to examine and verify the condition of the old or second-hand items you wish to purchase. Auction prices are better and more economical than the one you can find in retail establishments.
